Yaya Azariah Clarke
Yaya Azariah Clarke is a British-born Jamaican writer and cultural producer from South London. They specialise in Black visual and communal cultures, with their research spanning contemporary Black short film across the diaspora, and the cultural output of Afro-Caribbean communities in Britain.
Yaya was previously staff writer at It’s Nice That focusing on Black short film, art and photography. Artist profiles include Quil Lemons, Rashaad Newsome, Marc Padeu, Anya Paintsil and Ode. They were also a programmer for the publication’s monthly talk event, Nicer Tuesdays, bringing a diverse range of creatives to the stage. They are now a contributing writer at Creative Review and WePresent, and a commissioning editor for sweet-thang zine.
Alongside writing, they have worked on a number of freelance arts and community research projects for the Barbican, Dulwich Picture Gallery, Space Black Studios, Phantasy Saturday School and more.
